Support their curiosity, one small step at a time
You do not need to turn home into a classroom. A short conversation about an interesting question can make learning more approachable.
Ask about the process
After a maths question, ask “How did you start?” A drawing, a counter or a different method can reveal more than whether an answer was correct. If the learner is unsure, model one small step and let them choose the next.
For reading, choose a short passage and ask which words support an answer. Invite the learner to retell the idea in their own words. Avoid turning every page into a test.
Balance online and offline activity
Choose a public quiz together, then take the idea off screen. Equal groups can become snack plates, vocabulary can become a spoken word game, and science can begin with watching a familiar plant.
